Welcome!

Welcome to Sean's Beijing Olympic Blog! As you know, I am heading off to Beijing on August 2nd to work in COMM's for NBC at the International Broadcast Center during the Olympics. I return home on August 25th. During my time in Beijing, I hope to be able to keep you up-to-date on what's going on "behind the scenes" at the Olympics (both in sporting events and broadcasting), as well as giving you a glimpse of the unusual, interesting, or extraordinary places that I might have a chance to visit.

This is my 6th Olympic games working for NBC, and my 2nd time keeping a blog (my first was for the 2006 Winter Olympic games in Torino, and you can read Sean's Torino Olympic Blog by clicking here). Prior to blogging, I used to send out email posts to (what started as) a small mailing list. I found that many people were then forwarding my emails to other friends, so that my distribution was growing.

With the advent and ease of use of digital photography, I was able to enhance the email with photo attachments, but it started to become burdensome to send photos via email (especially if I only had dial-up access to the Internet). So, I was inspired to try blogging so that I could simply post the message and the pictures once in a central location for all those who might be interested in following along.

I am looking forward to my time in China. I expect to be dazzled, amazed, or intrigued by something every day. I hope you will be too!

Cheers - Sean

Have a great flight Sean! I hope that you somehow manage to finagle at least a premium economy seat, because that will be one LONG flight.

Looking forward to the posts...

Hi Barry and Anna!
I'm going to get a new (goofier) hat if at all possible, and will take pictures of the "interesting" food.
The flight is 14 hours from Chicago, straight through. I am in coach, but it is an NBC charter, so the food will be great, and I am guaranteed an empty seat beside me!

Hey Jay,
I leave on Saturday, so I won't actually be in the IBC till Monday, but I will come find you.
Nice blog, BTW, and I also like the "Nearest Hooters" link on your "Where Am I?" page!
